there must be a file that governs the shaders, because the textures and the models are swapped for the original quake 2 ones if you turn off RTX, I tried contacting the devs but i had no luck, what about you?

I was still a kid when Quake 2 came out, I wet my pants when i saw that ID logo getting stamped on a metal plate on the intro :D

Yeah, seems like they make new materials that manage the whole texture system, thats how they reduced the texture amount leaving only 20% of the original textures and duplicating them on other levels.

Check out how the new gun models are implemented, maybe you can see some shader action on the shotgun somewhere, its a weird system.

I think the worst part is how it handles the files and folder structures, and I think some spec maps or all are just generated from the diffuse.

Cool, im gonna start making the low poly, I will keep it under 6k polys or less, and textures 2048x2048. and lets see how it looks once in milkshape.
